I had a roommate in Fredericksburg, Virginia named Maurice Paquette.  I first heard the term “Captain Awesome” from Maurice when he would remind you to check your ego.  If he saw you getting a little over confident on something, he would say: “Who do you think you are?  Captain Awesome?”
